Gohan is Goku's first son and played a very important role in Dragon Ball Z. Gohan showed many signs of being a powerful Saiya-jin warrior, but he did not know yet how to control it. After releasing a devestating attack on Radditz, Piccolo saw Gohan's strength and commited himself to training Gohan. Soon enough, Gohan became a great fighter and helped defeat the Saiyans Nappa and Vegeta. As Gohan grew, so did his strength, shortly after the Freeza saga, Gohan became a super saiyan while training in the room of time and space. In the Cell saga, Gohan was the first to become super saiyan form 2 and surpass his father's strength to defeat Cell with a one-handed Kamehameha. Although I have not seen the Buu saga, I know that Gohan later gets the Z sword to defeat Buu when he is in college. He is also known as "The Great Saiya-man" sometimes in the series when he poses to be a super hero.
